I am now back at my old job as CNA, for which the pay is okay.
Now and then we'll work 12-hour shifts sporadically, just as long we get 36 hours in total. At first, it didn't seem like a bad idea… until our schedule creator decided to have me do 4 twelve-hour shifts in a row without warning.
After the 3rd night, I started to get angry at co-workers who were downright lazy. Some of them would pass off tasks to others, such as myself, while some would sleep on the med floor. It was due to this that the majority of the nurses and patients had asked me to do certain tasks. Things like this have been reported to the higher staff many times… but they're so desperate for CNA's that they keep them.
When I went to them about it, I told them the truth, that I was tired and spreading myself thin like before. I even tried to bargain with them that they could take one of my days off, for all I needed was time to sleep and have a day to myself. For which they replied
“We can't just take you off the schedule… but we can transfer you to a different unit.” Which is odd… because they have with others before.
Due to that, I called out as soon as I got home. Now I'm sitting at home playing my PS5. I have no regrets.
