So a friend of mine (19 F) works for a medical supply company. She does calls and types orders behind a desk all day, nothing very physically demanding and only requires average focus I could say right? Well Saturday she finished a task early and got assigned to do a new task that she doesn’t usually do which is pretty standard. It’s a smaller company and from what she’s told me she has to bounce around from department to department.
However instead of doing the task they had told her to do she did something that they usually do EOW for come Monday. Her bosses didn’t like that and pulled her aside for a meeting yesterday and told her off for “not being able to follow basic instructions”. Then they said since she didn’t “work” they weren’t going to pay her for all of Saturday. As of right now she doesn’t know how much they are or are not going to pay her but it was made clear they did not plan on paying her for the entire time she was there.
Then today they sent her home because “her work ethic wasn’t showing she was fully capable and they would catch her with her eyes drooping”.
Is there anything she can do? I know if she doesn’t get paid for Saturday that definitely illegal but how would she go about making sure she got that money?
