This is just a rant to vent my frustration.
Today I had a pre-employment physical for my new job. It's technically a government job, so I figured this would just be a pee-in-the-cup kind of visit.
No.
I have to fill out 4 pages of previous medical conditions and list every medication I'm currently taking. Gross, feels invasive, but whatever, fine. One of the nurses flips through the paperwork and warns me that some of the doctors are sticklers about medications, but that it shouldn't be a problem for me.
…Except the doctor comes in and proceeds to grill me over every medication I'm taking, for how long I've been taking it, and for what reason. Still, at the end she says she'll sign off that I'm fit for the job.
I get up to leave, but the nurse stops me to hand me a piece of paper- and now I'm required to have the prescribing doctor send this dinky little clinic my psychiatric care plan before the doctor will approve me as fit to work.
Because I take antidepressants and adderall.
She scribbled *”anxiety and depression” as the cause for the request, and circled my antidepressant and adderall, but also requested a fistful of completely unrelated medications (like a mild insomnia med). She didn't give a shit about my other ADHD-I medication, but still listed adderall despite not including ADHD-I in the reasons that she needs this information??
I don't even know what to fucking say. It's so dehumanizing. Half the fucking population has anxiety and depression, it's not unique, and there's nothing to suggest that it would interfere with my ability to do the job. I'm not asking for accommodations, and I really resent the immense breach of privacy that this doctor is demanding.
And, at the very end of this all, they never even had me pee in a cup. My employer didn't even want a drug test, they just wanted to invade my fucking privacy.
