FURTHER advice sought;

Got hired early August after 6.5mo post-graduation and working as a lifeguard for 4.5years, was very happy to finally nail my first “corporate role”, only to find out that I was hired through a TempAgency for $17.50/hr, to run an entire office, to stock the office, to handle admin tasks, etc .. which is fine, I don’t mind the experience .. but then I learned that the previous woman who quit this role after 3years, who is awesome and now a friend, was making $65,000/year for this exact same role. I also was hardly given any training and just thrown into it.

She told me all kinds of dirty secrets about this place, about how half the staff are “contractors”, and they apparently underpay the other office staff at other locations who I have talked to. She told me to learn as much as I can to make them need me more than I need them, and that, at the end of September, to demand $50,000/year minimum or go elsewhere. I’m making $33,000/yr after taxes at this role!!!!! And those fucking scalper temp agencies are making money and aren’t doing anything.

Whenever I bring it up to them that I want to be hired on, they tell me “let’s see how it goes”, etc .. and continue to string me along with the promise of a job. They’re paying me well-below market value. They have me literally as a part of the company in every way (emails etc .. ) with the exception of not being on their payroll .. everyday they are giving me more work that wasn’t in the original scope of the job, which I do not mind, but the pay doesn’t match.

I’m now sitting in the grey-area, insofar as employment here goes, I’m not doing anything to stand out but I’m not doing just nothing. I’m doing the bare minimum. I don’t want to be led on for the “potential” of a job.

They’re having me learn the I-9 stuff for what appears to be an audit coming up, but they won’t be direct .. they’re being very incremental with giving me this stuff, they’re putting stuff on me that was done by the woman prior who quit bc it apparently didn’t match her pay she said. So what is coming to be assigned next remains to be seen .. she told me to soap up as much experience as possible and look for another job if they don’t comply with bringing me on in late Sept. They also tried to get me to do work when I’m not working by attending some meetings.

SIKE, not happening.

UPDATE:

Been doing well at this job .. finished most of my work stuff, not overdoing it for a company that won’t even hire me on staff. Well, “my” manager came up to me 15-minutes-ago and said;

““You’ve gotta get your hands on more jobs or projects. You’re still temp right? yea soon we will start wondering what you’re doing, since you’re still temp. Unfortunately this is how this company is.”

He just essentially told me they’re considering firing me is what I got from that, because I finish all of my assigned work and don’t have shit-else to do? Sorry but you cannot expect me to feel crazy motivated to throw myself out there for $17.50/hour on a TEMP gig (not even temp to hire).

Advice??

UPDATE 2.0:

Found out when organising my work files they’re paying the staffing agency $35/hr .. and they lied to me about the contracting ending, since they told me it was “never-ending”, they’re actually ending it 12/31/2023. They said the agreement stated “continuous/never ending”. Meanwhile the temp agency provides garbage PTO, etc … they didn’t expect me to see this.

Advice???
