Called out of work today, put my points over the limit. I knew it would happen before I called out, but I couldn't take it anymore.
We've been working six days a week since last November. Every single Saturday “mandatory overtime.”
My personal time and vacation time got used up a long time ago.
I did have a Saturday off about four weeks ago. You know why? Because if you volunteer to work Sunday the company will THEN give you the following weekend off both days.
So yeah I got a weekend off, but I had to work 12 days straight to do it in a physically demanding job.
You know what I did that weekend? I laid on the fucking couch all day.
I feel like I'm fucking stuck here too. I'm 39 years old, I've been this company for 13 years. I get paid around $30 an hour, and not a single other company in this industry within 100 miles pays more than $23-25. I've got 4 weeks of vacation time and 40 hours of personal time a year, I only pay $80 a month for health insurance, I get a $3-4k bonus per year, and the company matches 8% 401k. I'm vested.
I don't want to learn a trade at almost 40 or go back to college at this age.
So maybe I don't have a right to complain.
But I just want to not be mandated to work an extra day. All this talk about four day work weeks, fuck I just want a five day at this point.
And the thing is, most of us here would volunteer for one or two weekends a month. The extra money is nice. But to mandate us every weekend for a year…..it's a big “fuck you” to all of us.
