This has been a few years ago.
I was invited to work a probational day at a company that was in charge of fixing all the iPhones in my area. A friend of mine and me went and checked them out on the same day. I was there to phone people and ask them how they wanted to receive their bill and he was there to package the repaired phones and send them out.
In terms of work the day went well for me, I got to sit in an office and talk to (sometimes very angry) people on the phone all day. The dude showing me the ropes was very impressed with how I handled angry folks. The problem was that during that 8 hour day three different department heads (not even “my” department) felt the need to have their first words and introduction to me be them yelling at me because I was wearing a hat that day, which irritated me to no end.
At the end of the day there was a small exit interview during which they told me that my work that day was excellent and they would love to hire me. I told them no, not if that is how they treat their employees on their first day. What would be next? Them not liking my hair and me having to shave my beard? Fuck that! They actually tried to convince me. I said “I could understand people not wanting me to wear a hat if I was directly interacting with customers. I am sitting in an office and talking on the phone all day. My clothes do NOT matter in this case. And apart from that the first attempt to solve this should not be 3 different people yelling at the new guy.” They insisted that it was all a big misunderstanding and they would really love to hire me. I said no again, thanked them for the opportunity and left to wait for my friend outside.
When my friend exited he was really angry. He was supposed to pack 40 phones an hour and did 60 but they told him to not come back because apparently that was too slow for them. So they just used him as free labor for a day, which made me REALLY angry.
On our way home they called my on my cell phone, asking me again to please work for them. I laughed, told them about what I just learned and that they can shove that job up their asses. They called again a few hours later with promised that those other team leaders would not be a problem going forward. I laughed at them again and told them to shove it.
They literally called me every day for 2 weeks, sometimes multiple times a day and begged me to reconsider. At first I was relatively patient and told them the reason for declining their shitty job multiple times. By the end of it I screamed into my phone telling them to leave me alone or I would sue them for harassment. The calls stopped after that.
