Dear Editor,

This is an open letter to the so-called “Canadian” reporter known as Gus Carlson who has been parroting the talking points from the pro-corporate right-wing pundits from south of the border.

Your article, if I can even call that, clearly demonstrated how backwards your line of thinking has been.Calling the common office worker “entitled” for wishing to do remote work, and justifying such vilification of the working class under the alleged guise of “productivity has been down”?

Cut the bovine manure already. We all know what's really going on.

It's not about productivity, it's not about “camaraderie” or “creativity” (News flash: Co-workers and bosses are NOT your buddies). It's a combination of validating the egos of certain business leaders, the middle managers trying to justify their jobs and the mortgages that these companies have taken on for their large, cushy office buildings.

That's the reason for the ill-will towards remote workers. It was never about productivity. It's about control and lost revenue due to lack of foresight.

Furthermore, as someone who worked in the field of IT for over a decade, I can assure you that pre-pandemic, the heaviest consumers of remote work, were upper-management and CEO's.

I mean they have to keep track of the office drones from their cottages and their yachts, right?

But wait, now the plebs want to have the same? Can't have that!! Perish the thought of being able to do the same as them!

Of course, they can threaten us with “job security” all they want. However, there are three details I'd like to bring to their attention.

  1. The only power they have over us, is whether we get a pay cheque from them, or someone with more foresight.
  2. We are not just employees. We are also customers and consumers. Their callousness can and will be costly on the long run.
  3. Employee retention begins with respect. We are not your slaves. Deal with it.That being said, why don't THEY lead by example and grow up!!

Sincerely,

Just a simple IT professional.
