I work at a place that's very busy during holidays. I need a month off which includes Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year's. I have not told them I can't work those days yet because there are blackout days and I'm worried about being fired before my vacation, and I need the money before the trip and it would be hard to get a whole other job just for one month before the trip during holiday season. The vacation is in one month from now.
Also I'm “part time” so I don't get any vacation time off, but when it's busy they give me 39 hours a week, so they give me full-time hours with no benefits when it's busy. So since I'm part time I feel like I have absolutely no obligation to follow blackout dates. What is giving me pause is, I'd like to keep the job after the vacation, but losing it before the vacation would be worst.
So should I tell them I can't work, will they fire me for that? Or should I put in my two weeks two weeks before the vacation, just to ensure I still have the job for the next month?
Ps I'm very good at my job but the managers don't know that, they are completely uninvolved in my job, and often don't even reply to any of our messages.
