While my job has a concerning staff turnover in the management department, I am a coal face worker and I have to say, I am extremely lucky to have my job.
I work in disabilities and I am a casual worker. Which means they can give me random shifts with no schedule and I can lose my job at any moment.
I instead work scheduled shifts. I generally know what I'm doing in 3 weeks. I have never been at risk of losing my job. I have been told that if I ever need to take a day off, they will give and never question it, because I'm a good worker. That's right. They reward good workers at my job.
Last year a family member died and without question, they gave me all the time off I needed, and told me outright that I would have a job when I came back. If I asked for time off afterwards (which I tried not to, but I wasn't the most reliable person for a few months), they were 100% supportive of that. I thanked one of the managers who I barely knew for the support that my job gave me and she said “of course you wouldn't lose your job. You're an asset to the company.”
I know if I ever decide to leave this job, if I wanted to come back, they'd welcome me with open arms.
I recognise this is really rare, which is why they have a lot of long term employees. They run the company well, and while it can be rough at times, I'm happy to work hard for them, because they work hard for me.
