Hi everyone, I started at this job pretty recently (being vague for privacy reasons) and I spent the last few months barely speaking to anyone. Maybe maximum 10-15 words a day and a newer employee was hired that I get along with pretty well. They’ll come over to my desk to chit chat while I’m still working and there’s notes/activity showing I’m still working while talking to them.
Today we both got a verbal warning for “excessive chatting” for an instance where I was helping a colleague with an important deadline since she’s still training for her role and the coworker I get along with came over while I was helping. (They were at my desk for about 45 minutes because the program we use is slow and the colleague learning was taking notes.)
Should this be a sign to quit/start looking? For the most part our conversations are about work and what they’re involved in surrounding my work which is obvious to whoever eavesdrops long enough, we just joke/relevant memes related to the work we’re involved in but also plan for upcoming deadlines.
During the meeting my supervisor/boss said they weren’t upset with my work or my work product but just the talking had to stop. I don’t know though because I have severe anxiety and I can’t stop thinking about it. I need this job and can’t afford to be fired so I was wondering maybe it’s time to move on…
TL;DR: Got written up for talking excessively abt work related things with some chit chat mixed in.
