I work as a night auditor at a hotel, and I am in the process of transitioning MtF and have been living as a female for over a year (this is important for the main point). We recently got new printers at the front desk in the hotel and they weren’t fully connected yet to the main computer, because of this I was not able to print out all of the financial reports needed, but was still able to complete the whole audit process. Only thing I couldn’t do was print the final report with the final finances laid out for the day.
I went into work last night and the front office manager was still at the hotel, so I asked him if the printer issues had been fixed and his response was “why are you the only one that leaves stuff for others to do?” I asked what exactly are you talking about and he referred to me leaving a note saying I could not print the final report. So I asked “how am I supposed to print the report when the printer isn’t working properly?”
He then told me I needed to use google and figure things out. I’m sorry my job isn’t to get technology working correctly we have an IT person for that and I didn’t realize that printing a few pages was that big of an issue for you. He then reiterated that I need to learn how google works and stop leaving my work for everyone else to do. And I admittedly got frustrated at this point and said “wtf you want me to do when the printer is not functioning properly?” He then looked at me and told me to never use profanity around him again, and I need to show a level of respect to management. And then came up to the front of the front desk and said “you were cool as a man, but as a woman you’re a total bitch!” At this point I was so flabbergasted I had nothing to say.
How exactly should I handle this? I know HR is there to ultimately protect the company but who can I turn to in this situation?
