For the last eight months I’ve worked at an appliance company in its newest location. The company took over an existing family store that was prominent within the community and has been next to dead in the water since they’ve taken over. Zero customers, the showroom itself is empty, zero plan to try and maintain the current customer base, there isn’t even a sign out front.
In my eight months, I’ve done what I can to varying results to try to make sales including asking to go on ride alongs to visit local businesses to build up the clientele which never came to fruition.
Yesterday I was asked to go back to go to the main office for my review (the main office is a 40 minute drive). I was brought into a room and told that I was, “a cool dude but we don’t think we’re a good fit for you and after a year we didn’t see any improvement”. I was shocked and confused seeing as I had not been at the company for a year, this was the first time I was ever talked to about my performance, and there was no actual reason given. I was pushed out of the room before I could ask about what would come of my health insurance and if there was any type of severance and what my final paycheck will look like.
I called my store manager to ask if he had any insight since he also had a review right before me, he told me he had no idea they were firing him and that my call was news to him.
I’ve sent two follow up emails to the manager that fired me and the HR person and have only gotten a “sorry I’m at a meeting all day” response.
