For context:
I work for a pool company, been in the industry for almost 10 years.
Started with construction (dig, shovel bitch, rebar, plumbing, tile, coping, etc) Moved up to the service department, where I learned to clean and maintain pools. I also learned how to do renovations on pools. I also learned almost everything there is to know about servicing all pool equipment.
Today, we got done done a bit early, and came into the office to get some more work. They said, “well, you can go clean some pools to help the guys out,” which I respectfully declined.
I’ve been cleaning pools for this company here and there, because I know how to do it, and I’m good at it. But, I was hired on as a service technician and made it clear when I was hired that I don’t want to clean pools.
Well, today our GM decided that since I didn’t want to do a job that is well below my pay grade, that he would send me home.
This is my first day back after wisdom tooth extraction, and I’ve already missed a day and a half.
They have service calls ready, I could have easily joined my coworker and helped him with other service calls, but I got sent home.
Am I the asshole?
I plan on speaking with the owners in the morning, and plan on asking our GM “what were you thinking?”
Can reply to comments for more info, but fuck man am I tired of working for the “boomer” generation.
