I work as a pest control tech, and the way appointments work is that sales reps go door-to-door (you can tell that this story is starting GREAT) and chat up customers to sign a contract.
They then schedule appointments for said customers to be serviced by whatever techs are out in that area for the day.
I’ve serviced some of the worst houses that didn’t need pest control, but rather needed to be burned DOWN.
One home had holes going through the foundation in the kitchen. Another had air so thick that I needed an actual gas mask just standing at the door.
Clearly our sales reps are just greedy and don’t care who they sell to if they’re making 50% of the completion payment.
But one house was just an 1800’s roadside shack that the current homeowner added on to during the 30 years he lived there.
The homeowner reported wild copperheads that appeared anywhere, even in his furniture.
The sales rep knew this and didn’t tell me. I did not have the right boots for this, and my manager begged me not to quit.
I simply serviced only half of the house and gtfo.
