I'm a hospital housekeeper, assigned to the NICU. Besides general cleaning of patient rooms, break rooms, restrooms, etc, I also clean the incubators the babies are put in. I love my job, and the medical staff I work with…but absolutely hate my bosses. I don't work for the hospital, but an outside company.
Anyway, I had just finished my lunch. I went to the office and one of the supervisors asked if I can help with a room on another floor because it was in STAT. I told him I would, despite having a lot of work myself. While on my way to get my cleaning cart, I had a bout of vertigo which lasted a few minutes. I suffer with vestibular vertigo, so these can last for quite a while.
I texted my supervisor that I can't do the room after all cause I feel dizzy and I'm walking very wobbly. I told him I was going to sit and rest a bit. He texted back, saying that he had no one available, and I had to start taking out the trash and linen from that room until he could send someone to finish the room.
I got up and went on my way, but a coworker stopped me, that she overheard the supervisor send someone else to clean the room. I told her what happened, and she said to not worry about it, and to rest for a bit.
I feel pretty crushed. They don't care. You're just a tool, a number to them.
