So yesterday I got sent home, because I was starting to vomit and had felt nauseous, dizzy, clammy, and weak all day. I was dehydrated from spewing out of both ends. Apparently a customer heard me vomiting in the bathroom. And being food service, food borne illness is a problem. So the minute I got out of the bathroom after vomiting, I asked my manager and people in the department if I could go home. They said yes. The store director came over and asked if I was sick, I said yes, which is when I learned a customer had heard me. Store manager said to go home and asked if we had coverage, we did, so I went home. Absolutely nothing was said about needing a sick note, a doctor's note, anything. Several people in the store also said they were having the same symptoms, so clearly something is going around. The only thing I was told was “I hope you feel better.” Today, I am still incredibly sick. I let my manager know that I was sick, but still willing to come in and work and tough it out, and left the choice up to them. They said you are sick, you can't work, dont come in. Nothing else was said. Being proactive, I went through Urgent Care and got a doctor's note saying specifically “Please excuse them from work/school for June 22-23 due to illness.” I let my manager know I had a doctor's note available for them, in case they needed it, and the manager tried to tear me a new AH and is saying they won't accept my doctor's note, because I didn't get it yesterday. They never even asked for one, and are now saying they won't accept it and its invalid and are acting like I'm going to get fired for being sick. Both days I was willing to work full shifts, while sick, they chose to send me home. Are employers allowed to invalidate a doctor's note or declare retroactively that I should have gotten one, when I was never told to get one in the first place?
