Receptionist at a veterinary clinic currently due to short staffing. I was told back in September this would only last a week, yeah right..
So the actual receptionist put in her notice back in October and left in March, so much time to hire and train a couple people right? No. My boss has yet to hire anybody else. I am the only receptionist in this entire clinic and it is staying that way. How would I know this? I asked for a meeting and talked to her about how much help I need and how I want to get back into vet assisting. She said she would have another tech help me on Monday mornings… and that hasn't even happened.
So I'm out with 101.0 fever with a sore throat, can't even speak. I got one day off and today she called me in to fix the tills since nobody else knows how to take money in or work closing. I came in to a mess. I walked in and everyone was horrified because I showed up in my pajamas and sweating. I fixed the tills and walked out. They called me back in to close.
Now I have to be at work tomorrow because nobody else knows how to take calls, schedule appointments, prep paperwork, send records, receive records, prep RX's, send letters, order food, check out every client, check out for meds etc. I can't even speak my throat is swollen and inflamed. This is not the first time this has happened but it may be my last. I am thinking of handing in my keys at this point.
