Hired as remote – they now want him to come into office

My father was hired by the purple bank two years ago. In the contract he signed it was stated that his position was a permanent WFH. Now they’re telling him that he has to come to the downtown office to work. It blindsided him, his coworkers, boss, boss’s boss, and the 3x boss. They were all contracted to WFH and most live outside a reasonable commute time. (I was told 3x boss will have to report to ATL offices and he would have a 3+ hour commute one way. He was not happy). All have talked to HR and filed grievances. Is there anything else they can do? Is it technically a breach of contract or can the they change employee contracts without notification? Further info: My father (and several others) have started looking for new (remote) jobs. Why would companies do this when they’ve seen the drop rates others…

Further info: My father (and several others) have started looking for new (remote) jobs. Why would companies do this when they’ve seen the drop rates others are having when they force their employees back to the office? sigh SMH
