So I just got a new job and the onboarding has been pretty rigorous. Fingerprints, physical, the whole deal. The physical was on Monday and I’ve been waiting for them to receive results. Because they haven’t received it yet, they’ve told me that they unfortunately can not bring me on, as their last orientation for the remainder of the year is happening this upcoming Monday. Instead, I now have to wait until next month to begin orientation. I was told “most of the staff is on vacation already so you aren’t even missing much!”
I’m pretty floored and pissed off since I originally was lead to believe I could start as early as last week. Why would they onboard people knowing that problem could even arise? Because I haven’t begun training, am I effectively not a paid staff member yet? It isn’t like a job offer has been pulled away. I’ve been hired. Is there any form of compensation I can seek? Because having no income through the Holidays is jeopardizing a lot of things for me, including having to move in two months. My last few statements will show that I have no steady income. Do I just bite my tongue and get a shitty part time job for a month? Am I eligible for unemployment? Am I entitled to anything from my new employer? Thanks fam.
