Hold my company until the divorce is over.

I have worked for a small (10-15 employees) family business for 9 years. I am the general manager for the past 5. I have learned exactly who the owner of this company is. Deceitful and spiteful to the core. Recently , he told me he is getting a divorce. It is turning into quite an ugly divorce. Without getting into all of the bullshit I have put up with for the past 9 years. Vehicles burning down, guns, violence, hiding money and so much more. I want to share the situation I am in now. I started the process of starting my own company this year and plan on hitting the ground running next spring. Two months ago I found out (from the owner) he is getting divorced. Of course the whole “I need you more then ever now than before” came into play. Even though he has told me that…

Without getting into all of the bullshit I have put up with for the past 9 years. Vehicles burning down, guns, violence, hiding money and so much more.

I started the process of starting my own company this year and plan on hitting the ground running next spring.
Two months ago I found out (from the owner) he is getting divorced. Of course the whole “I need you more then ever now than before” came into play. Even though he has told me that a “monkey can do my job”. But of course being intertwined with such a small company for so long, it pulls on heart strings.

At first he said the business would not be changed in this divorce, but recently he got drunk at lunch came back to the office and explained that she is going to “come after” the business.

His goal is to give her as little money as possible. So , his solution is to make the company worthless and then close down this year. Start a new company next year and have me run it and hold it until he is able to come back and work, then things would return to normal (my personal hell). This is one of the most crazy ideas I have ever heard. I am struggling to not tell the other employees , that they need to find a new job before shit hits the fan.

This is just me venting, as I do not want to vent to anyone else in my personal life anymore about this place. That is all I have done for the past 9 years. I’m just happy I will be gone next year. Thanks for reading.

Tldr; Boss is getting divorced. Wants to close down the business and hide in the shadows while I startup a new brand for him until he can come back to work.
