I quit a job that wasn’t good for me. Big time christian conservative vibes. I was a good worker they got my sweat but but they wanted more. I needed to do more to do more. I’ve bled while they’re making excuses for others doing less. I had a lot of freedom when working for them but there was too much deception and lack of Christian accountability(which thing these days). They were not going to get my tears. I gave 2 weeks but was done in 1 week. They understood.

I started a new job a week later. I had immediate regrets. Kinda got depressed about the move I made even though I was making more moolah. My boss was a little prick one of those guys that thinks he’s cool. To quote his cringe “I am Superman” when referring to himself. Well, this guy hired me to spite my predecessor. My predecessor was supposed to do some crossover training but he barely taught me anything over the 3 days we had together. Within the first week my predecessor tried to defame me by going to the Director and talking about my job history/qualifications. He was setting me up for failure. A 69yo man was trying to destroy my good name. His assassination attempt fell flat when my current employers started calling my references and old job sites. I have made some quality professional connections over the years. My references tipped me off that folks are snooping and I went to my “Superman” supervisor. He admitted that they put the cart before the horse when hiring me. This made me feel like I was the rebound to make my predecessor jealous. My predecessor did threatened to retire early once. They begged my predecessor to stay and the second time they called his bluff. His building was falling apart. Lights out, sinks clogged, things were bad beyond normal wear and tear so I get why they finally cut the cord.

Me being me bright eyed, bushy tailed, with a lot to prove started cleaning house, clearing maintenance tickets as they come in, fixing old yet serious issues…you get the picture. Well, I never got any appreciation for my efforts. Superman thanked me twice and it seemed like it pained him to do so. His protégée (let’s call her Louis Bane) thanked me about that much. 2 supervisors thanked me maybe 4 times in 21 days. Ms. Bane knew my background and literally told me that she will heavily rely on my experience since she has never been in a management role before.

Fast forward (last Wednesday), my assistant and I busted our asses to setup for a dinner event. They anticipated for 350 people. We never got thanked. Then my boss had the audacity to say that he was there to help. I said, “what do you mean? The setup is done”. Supervisor said, “to help us teardown”. I told him that I am not tearing down anything that night and that I’ll do it tomorrow morning. This fucker just stood there in silence. I slapped the trash bags in my hands and walked away. I knew Louis Bane asked him to boss me around and to teardown that night but it wasn’t going to happen. Next day I busted my ass bright and early and we finished the teardown. A staff person gave me thanks and said that he never seen his space cleared so early in the day after an event. We setup for another event 2 days later, last Friday for Monday (today). They needed about 420 chairs to accommodate our guests. Louise Bane was trying to confirm this with me and I told her I don’t plan events I just put up chairs. She walked away without saying a word. Monday comes, the setup we did was destroyed. Floor coverings bunched up everywhere and chairs out of place. I was salty and glad it was my last morning there.

While my character was being backstabbed, I started looking for another job immediately. I got a bite and I was offered a job with a better title, same pay but now I have autonomy and the opportunity to grow. Upon getting ready for freedom I found out how far I was being micromanage. These monsters already had access to all of my computer documents. I only discovered that when I attempted to share my work like a good slave and make sure the next guy was ready on day 1. I printed my resignation and put them in an envelope marked them to the necessary folks: superman, his boss and HR.

I get along fairly easy with folks. I’ve been described as personable, professional, and a natural leader. I brought fresh energy and perspective. I had the respect of my teams in 2 weeks. When I told my assistant that today was my last day, I almost made a 60yo man cry; Fr. He thought we could take on the world. I felt so bad for him. My last act for the people was to approve his PTO.

I gave HR the keys and letters and walked out. It felt good not having the name tag around my neck and the extra keys on my belt. I felt like a free man until his boss sent me an email trying to figure out what was wrong and that she was concerned about my experience there. I emailed her telling her that I’d give her an exit interview but she emailed me back saying I should have given her the same courtesy she’d given mage mentioned something about current workplace dynamics (power struggles and acquisitions). I didn’t care, her coded words didn’t make sense at the time it was truly a waste of breath. It didn’t affect me or what I do in my role in the slightest. Well she made that her point of contention. How I didn’t give her the same courtesy she gave me. This woman literally told me the situation 1 business day prior to my start. I guess if I gave her the same 1 day notice that I was resigning she’d felt better—NOT! She totally bypassed the exit interview. I guess she wasn’t that concerned at all. I am considering not emailing her back but I really enjoy pinning management to the cork board of reflection.

TL;DR: I quit a job. I got a new job and immediately regretted it. My predecessor tried to assassinate my character. I immediately started looking for another job. My supervisors “thanked” 4 times in 21 days. I resigned today without advanced notice. Bosses boss said she wished I’d given her the same professional courtesy as she’d given me (1 day before my my hire).
