Sort of a rant. I’m a bit perturbed by yet another nonsense policy enacted by the hospital I work at here in Missouri. As if my inbox wasn’t already brimming with actual work related emails, I received an email regarding enforcement of a policy stating employees are not permitted to sleep during their break times. Now personally, I don’t know how anyone could want to sleep in this horrible environment here, but I can’t help but feel this policy is illegal and unenforceable. Now if someone sleeps past their scheduled break time, then yes that would pose a problem, that’s kind of the risk they take. But how can an employer dictate what one can or can’t do like this during their break, especially when it is unpaid?
