Hot take: it’s okay to lie on your resume to get ahead

As the title says. You got an employer on your resume that is no longer in business or no longer exists? You weren’t a cashier, you were a shift supervisor. Or you weren’t a sales rep, you were a team lead, perhaps a manager. Businesses on your resume that are still around? Heavily exaggerate your tasks and skill sets that you did. The only rules I have for this is never lie about where you worked (if you didn’t work for Microsoft, don’t put it on there), and never lie about a skill set or task you’re not comfortable with taking on once hired. There’s a reason these employers ask for phone numbers, because they have no other way of verifying if you’re being honest or not. And if the business no longer exists, you have an upper hand here. If they somehow have the ability discover a discrepancy (which is very rare and also expensive for them to do), oh well, keep applying elsewhere.

Have a back story and make it believable, practice it. Don’t leave any holes in your story. Seriously, it works. I wasn’t getting any calls back and constant rejections. All I did was remove an employer that I didn’t work very long for, extend the time of the previous employer I worked for, that previous employer no longer exists so I put myself in a leadership role. Now I have several interviews scheduled over the next two weeks, most for very high level positions. These places screw over hard working people all the time and don’t care about you, you’re allowed take back a little power while you’re hunting for a new job.
