How can I make myself care about work?

I stayed at my first job in high school for more than two years. I am nearly 20 years old now and I began to feel disillusioned with work shortly after high school. I realized that working my entire life just to retire when I’m too old to do what I want is a waste of the gift of life. Since then, whenever a job becomes less than enjoyable, I give up. I stop trying, I show up late, or sometimes not at all. At my current job, I liked the position I started at. The work was dynamic, I had friends, and I was able to work with my hands. A few weeks ago my boss moved me to a different position which is incredibly mundane and repetitive, and again I’ve given up. Since then, whenever a job becomes less than enjoyable, I give up. I stop trying, I show up late, or sometimes not at all. At my current job, I liked the position I started at. The work was dynamic, I had friends, and I was able to work with my hands. I know it’s childish because I know that in life you have to do things you don’t want to do and I need this job. How do I get out of this cycle?

The bigger and more important question is how do you achieve a meaningful and financially sustainable life without work? (By work I mean working for someone other than yourself)
