How do I proceed?

Four paychecks ago, my employer went from garnishing 1% of each check to the garnishment being 14% (it’s for old student loan debt, but it’s been so long that I don’t have or recall any paperwork about it or how it is supposed to work (like, how much is supposed to come out). It has been 1% as far as the old paystubs that I can see go back (about a year). I have just ignored the 1% to be honest. I never really looked into why it continued through covid or anything like that. Four checks ago, when it switched to 14%, I didn’t see the pay stub and didn’t know. The next pay period was the normal 1%, then 2 more times of 14%, and then nothing on the check after that. I contacted HR 🤡 and they said the payroll company (ADP) handles all that – so…

I contacted HR 🤡 and they said the payroll company (ADP) handles all that – so I called them. They referred me back to the company and said “we just do what the company tells us”. So I talked to HR again and asked them to immediately send me the order for my garnishment so I can see what they should be taking.

That was a couple of weeks ago & she has told me 3 times that she’s still working on it with the payroll company.

I asked them to halt the 14% & go back to 1% while we figure it out. And her reply was “we can only stop the garnishments if you have a legal order saying it is settled. I
Wrote back to explain that I should not have to provide documentation that you cannot take my money… You should provide documentation that you pay and take my money.

I also mentioned that it does not make sense for it to have changed from one percent to 14% without them knowing why and them still not be able to change it… But she is insistent that I would need to send her documentation for that to happen.

I work part time for minimum wage and I am down $240 over my last four checks because of this.

I suspect they have been garnishing me all this time without the proper paperwork I used to be a full-time employee and then switched to part-time, and I suspect they did not transfer everything properly… Or it could be something else, but I don’t understand why they can’t show me the order after thre they have been garnishing me all this time without the proper paperwork I used to be a full-time employee and then switched to part-time, and I suspect they did not transfer everything properly… Or it could be something else, but I don’t understand why they can’t show me the order after 2+ week.

My job is in Massachusetts, but I live in a different state if that matters … Where do I go from here, y’all? I don’t think I can handle getting ripped off by one more corporation.
