I am working at a retail store with my best friend. Our manager is a scary person who ruined someone’s life in high school simply because he didn’t like him. He’s the most negative person I have ever met and doesn’t help with anything. He is high all the time as well. I am genuinely scared that if I quit with no reason, he would mess with my paycheck or show up at my front doorstep or something.
I have put together a lie that I have to quit to take care of a sick family member but I cannot bring myself to go through with it. Karma is a bitch and I don’t like tempting fate, as I am someone with really bad luck.
I feel bad leaving my best friend with him because currently, it’s only my manager, my friend, and I working at this place. My friend understands why and they’ve even quit a job we worked together at before after 3 days.
How do I quit this damn job without the manager coming after me? Obviously if something happened the cops and district manager would get involved but this dude genuinely scares me. He claims he’s a different person now but I don’t believe it for a second.
I was thinking of making a group chat with my district manager AND my store manager and breaking the news that way but I simply do not have a reason for quitting this job other than the fact I don’t like it. My manager would not like that reason at all and would definitely question it. Not to mention, my best friend is still stuck here working with him.
Any advice is welcome.
