So, i’ve been a nurse for a little over a decade now. The majority of that time I was working in the hospital three days per week. A year ago, I was burnt out from COVID and with a growing family, my wife and I decided for me to find a job outside of the hospital and work five days per week. The thought was that I would have weekends, mornings and evenings with the family. The big benefit was that I would not be working at night.
Now it’s been one full year working during the day five days per week. I’m not too sure how any of you do this. Besides the daily basic cleaning activities around the home, no big projects get done. Getting groceries is a hassle because it has to be done during rush hour. Any events or trips, myself and my family take are now done on the weekends and everything is packed. Granted, she works also and it makes it difficult to coordinate schedules and get projects done around the home.
Starting next week, I’m going back to three days per week, but during the day. I don’t know how any of you do five days per week. You barely have any time in the morning and you’re too exhausted at night to do anything but the most basic maintenance upkeep on your home before having to sleep.
I already have my list of projects I have to complete around the home and I am very excited. The most any of us should have to work per week is four days. I am not surprised that depression, suicide and other stress related, mental illnesses plague, our society. It’s ridiculous.
