51M here with a 25 year, specialized career that's become very toxic. Im a highly sensitive person, so Im steadily falling apart. Not looking for advice on how to stay because this industry is just not a good fit for me anymore. They pay me a lot so I've enjoyed a luxurious lifestyle, and its hard to let that go. Despite this, I have serious thoughts of asking for severance, selling my home, and camping out on a beach for a month to clear my head. My skills are not easily transferrable so good chance I'll have to re-tool. There's nothing holding me back because I'm single, no kids, and zero debt aside from a mortgage. Three months prudent reserve.
This situation reminds me of a romantic relationship where the two of us are constantly fighting, but I don't want to leave because I'm afraid of being alone. Thought I'd post here in case others have been through this. Starting talk therapy this afternoon in hopes I get more direction.
