About two months ago I got a job through a job fair for a local business opening a large operation here in my area. Having some prior experience in the industry (4-4.5) years, spread across various ‘departments’. I had previously already applied for positions I felt qualified for with my work experience but was not able to get them due to positions being filled. But was able to still get a position that at the end of the day had a fair wage and promising work that made me feel like I’d enjoy it. Orientation and background takes forever and it finally comes around to me being told to show up for the first day of work and mind you I’ve missed soft openings and training days and have no idea what to expect. But I’m a good sport I like adventure.
There is no clear communication chain I can see and it seems hectic but for the first event it was to be given. I end up working a department and position I had actually been very reluctant to do. Security. Not that it is hard, but my work experience is more valuable than the work of standing and shuffling people along. However I worked the shift the first in hopes it would be good for me. I reach out to my department manager and never get a word from him, I show up for my second event and am scheduled for security again. Despite not really okaying that, or being asked. It had been mentioned about the possibility and I kind of glanced over it like oh yea we will see. I left and nobody has said anything and I am not sure how to really go forward. I’ve never been trained for my actual job, manager hasn’t responded to me, being shuffled into other work I didn’t want to do and won’t do.
