World our parents taught us to be successful in doesn’t exist anymore. They said go to school, get a good job working for someone else and ur set. Growing up, I wanted nothing more than to have a respectable career and make a good living, have a nice car and a house with a yard or luxury of having kids and being able to stay home and raise them.
Now that I’m doing it, it’s not paying off. I’m no better off than 20yr ago when I was working in a restaurant at 16 aside from I now could quit a job and have a new one in a couple days bc of my in-demand skillset.
My current boss is hardly ever at work. (I’m a mechanic in automotive repair garage) He’s in his 60s and has hired a cameraman n shit for his youTube channel, Facebook presence, and he networks within the industry heavily and has a podcast about the industry, how it’s gone to shit, treats mechanics unfairly and needs to change. I think He has figured it out. There’s potentially a good living in that but I’m not an entertainer,.. don’t want to be in media, a influencer, or on the internet like that.
What does it take to thrive in this new economy?? Needing money to live is a fact of life and a job even a good one doesn’t do that anymore, Are there people out there that discuss this, strategies.. how to make your way?? Now that everything is controlled by corporations, lower pay and benefits for sake of shareholder profits. Hardly anyone offers pensions, the dollar has less buying power, extremley difficult to save for old age IF you get out of perpetually being in debt, and days where a nurse or tradesman could buy a house on their own are gone,
