Our HR department is over payroll and any changes that may occur in pay for employees. I recently moved from being an hourly employee to being a salaried employee. My job is very strict in making sure you clock in and out on time when you are hourly, as to avoid paying you overtime. When you are salaried, they don’t care as long as you clock in for the day period, tbh. They don’t care if you take a lunch or not when salaried, but when you are hourly, you are forced to clock out and take an hour long lunch. That being said, it took me quite a while to get used to the lax time clock I was now issued.
On the last day of the pay cycle, I happened to work through my lunch so I didn’t clock out. Come the following week, I get a phone call from one of my managers telling me HR fudged my pay and did not switch me to salary. I was working as if I was hourly the past 2 weeks and am now expecting a paycheck that week. That’s no biggie, but what does bother me is that the only reason they caught it was because I didn’t clock out on the last day of the pay period, and, my job being as strict as they are, went to investigate why I didn’t clock out.
I’m convinced the only reason they found out I wasn’t switched was because of the hour discrepancy. I wonder how long that would’ve went on if I kept a consistent hourly schedule? 🤔
