HR just asked me for my email password. Is that normal?

I work for a smallish company in a northeastern mid size city, but I got an offer to work somewhere else with better hours and way better pay. I don’t think this was surprising to anyone because it was fairly obvious that I’ve been unhappy with my current position for a while now. I told my boss that I accepted a new position and gave them three weeks notice. A few days later, I got an email from HR asking me for the password to my company email account. I still have two weeks left on the job and I’m uncomfortable with the idea of them going through my email while I’m still working there. I know that what they’re doing isn’t illegal and that a company has the right to go through your email at any time during or after employment, but I still think it’s weird. And perhaps…

And perhaps a bit unethical? Also, they can go through my email without the password, so I think it’s doubly weird that they asked for it.

Am I over exaggerating or is this strange?
