HR might prevent me from working a dumb little low-skilled per diem job simply because … they exist

$16 security guard job, not even full-time. Just per-diem. I'm literally in the military and work security right now. The security department that interviewed me welcomed me in and said I'm perfect for the job. They then urged HR to get me in. What does HR do? … “Let me ask you questions: Why do you want to work here? What did you like best about your last employer? Etc.” Then they require me to fill out a background check that is used to vet like corporate executives where you list every degree you earned and every job you worked, way more than a simple criminal background check. Then they ask me for 5 references and say they need them “before we move forward should we be a mutual fit.” Then there's medical exams I need to get on top of this… all for $16 an hour probably 16 hours…

What does HR do?

… “Let me ask you questions: Why do you want to work here? What did you like best about your last employer? Etc.”

Then they require me to fill out a background check that is used to vet like corporate executives where you list every degree you earned and every job you worked, way more than a simple criminal background check.

Then they ask me for 5 references and say they need them “before we move forward should we be a mutual fit.”

Then there's medical exams I need to get on top of this… all for $16 an hour probably 16 hours a week or something little according to THEIR NEED… even though the actual managers that hired me from the department (over 20 years with the company) said I'm great and they want me to start.

Meanwhile McDonalds pays $18.
