My husband had 4 interviews with a very well know paint company for a district manager position he is well qualified for. They offered him the position during the last interview BUT they told him he would have to work as a store associate for a YEAR at $9.00/hour so he could “learn the business”. Apparently this new “process” was coming down from the new corporate leadership.
Although he wanted to flip the table and storm out, he countered and offered to work as an associate for 90 days and then be paid the DM salary and shadow another DM as training (with an agreement in writing, of course). He explained that 90 days would be more than enough time for all parties to determine if he was a good fit for the role. Interviewer said he would take it to his boss and see what they could work out. Believe it or not…..he never heard from them again.
I'm so damn sick of the audacity of these companies trying everything under the sun to exploit workers.
