I applied for a senior level position that required 2-4 years of experience. After the final interview, which was for the position I applied for, I got offered a another senior level position that required 8+ years of experience; I had 3. I brought this up to my employer and they told me not to worry because they would train me. After very haphazard training, I was given no feedback on my work. I was eventually pushed to another team and the only feedback I got was from one coworker that trained me for that team and said I was doing amazing (he’s one of my references). I never had any performance meetings with my boss.
Anyway two days ago, I get pulled into a conference room under the pretense of this being a performance review. It was not. My boss said that effective immediately my employment was “terminated”. I asked her if this was disciplinary or performance related and she refused to answer saying the state we’re in is an “at will” state and they don’t need to provide a reason. I followed that up by asking what I could have done better and what lessons should I learn and got the same non-answer.
The worst part is that I couldn’t go back to clean out my cubicle or even go to the break room to get my lunch. They retrieved my belongings and showed me out the door saying they’d give me a good reference for what that’s worth.
I looked online and saw a job posting for my position, so it’s not like I can spin this as like I was laid off due to cost cutting, staff cuts, etc.
I’m so lost. I was fucked royally by this firm.
Edit: Any advice on how to spin this situation in interviews/resume would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: Also they scrubbed my history of applying to the position I applied for.
