I am quitting today

While this job was very short turn and just a stop gap until I found something better, I disliked being there every day I worked. One co-worker told me to “check the job board on your phone every night” due to the schedule changing on the fly. Be it you where scheduled off the following day and low and behold found out you where now scheduled to work, and/or if scheduled on, your start times would change, as well as your daily role. This was/is aggravating. I found I had to cancel plans, before/after work and cancel plans with friends due to being scheduled on a day off. I now see the reason for this, the younger workers wouldn’t show up for their shifts, or they would call in sick ALOT and THIS was the main reason for the “shift and daily role changes” on the fly. Given I am an older worker, and my work mindset is a lot different, I wanted to punch these jerk kids in the face. Anyhow, I was offered another job just the other day, while it is only casual part-time, I hope it is a step in the right direction with future jobs. I will be heading into the office today to finalize the deal, meet my new manager, and my wage will be going up by $6.25 an hour, and I will be getting back into using computers for some data entry, which I had been doing for the past 20 years before I got laid off from my previous employer. I feel I am in a precarious situation, given I am an older worker, but too young to retire, and due to my career/work “Transition” I am having a hard time with getting a better paying job in a new field, so I have to work crummy minimum wage jobs until I get a better ish job. I hope with this new job, will help me manoeuvre my way into something more related to what I did for the past 20 years, combined with my college upgrade, will be better pay, more permanent and full time. Rant over.
