I caught my thumb head of a boss in a months-long lie.

A year ago, I (29F) was “rewarded” growth and opportunity for being assigned to our company’s largest and most expensive project. While I’ve kicked ass, I have grown incredibly miserable over the last year due to the never-ending stress and sexism that’s found working in this particular project group. A few months ago, I worked up the courage to meet with my supervisor and share I was burnt out and extremely uncomfortable with the work environment, and requested a change as soon as possible. He seemed to sympathize, and shared he would talk to our senior director about a move for me. Later that day, he gave me a call and shared our senior director agreed they would move me, because they don’t want me leaving the company. After that, nothing happened. I checked in periodically, and they were “still thinking of options.” Well, a week ago, our senior director…

I checked in periodically, and they were “still thinking of options.”

Well, a week ago, our senior director reached out to me with a bonus of $2K for “all of my hard work” over the last year (mind you, I believe I’m inadequately compensated by $15-$20K). It felt off, like I was getting paid to shut up. He said “if you’re ever ready to leave this project, let me know and we will make it happen.” So I’m sitting there, confused, because my supervisor had apparently shared with him months ago this was my desire. Anyway, so I follow up with senior director a day later and explain I’d like to be moved and had shared this with my supervisor months ago this desire. Senior director’s response? “Thank you, he never told me. We’ll make it happen.”

So either 1) my supervisor lied to me 2) my senior director lied to me or 3) my senior director forgot this conversation took place. So none of the scenarios bode well.

At this point – even if they do move me, they’ve shown their hand. As an employee who has continued to receive “exceeds expectations” performance reviews, it’s discouraging to see they are willing to let me suffer.

I have several interviews lined up and I am hoping I can leave this company entirely soon, with a big “fuck you” as I walk out the door. Wish me luck.
