So about a year ago I quit my first job. I was working at a deli in a grocery store. While there I sustained burns and plenty of injuries and had to keep working no matter how bad it was.
My manager was abusive and cruel to everyone there, but still kept her job even though the deli was the only part of the store with such an insane turnover rate.
During this time I was sixteen. I would work 8+ hours without a break. I was kept until almost 11pm once when we closed at 7pm.
What was I doing? I was scrubbing (still very very hot ~350+ F) fryers while my manager watched me and yelled at me for not doing everything right. This was in my first couple weeks.
The breaks situation was horrible. Me and another boy (14-15) were not allowed to take any breaks at all. It didn't matter if our shift was 5 hours or pushing 9. We had to be on our feet at all times, doing an insane amount of work for the time given. We weren't even taught HOW to take breaks.
I know the other guy who's now 16 still works there because he has nowhere else to work. I'm wondering what channels I can go through to report something like this. When I told the owners they did not care.
