This is mostly just a vent because I'm not in a good headspace right now. Wouldn't be surprised if some of my coworkers are on here so hey y'all if you recognize me, yes I'm the one who got the store shut down like 3 times
I made a post in this sub sometime last year, and things have been up and down since then, and currently it's way the fuck down. My new job, an equally shitty taco place, has been sending up red flags since the moment I had my interview, but I was desperate (and still am, frankly). Scheduled for 6 days in a row on the onset–I made decent money but I was also dead on my feet. We got a new GM, everything was looking up. Get essentially a second GM and everything gets immediately worse. Suddenly there's no hours, GM #2 is an incompetent idiot, and tons of hearsay going on. GM #1 insists there's no hours because of GM #2 and the people #2 are training, but #2 insists #1 is just trying to look like they're saving money on labor because–somehow–#2 and his lackeys aren't getting paid at all and, uh, I should probably go to the DOL come to think of it.
Other shit that's gone on:
- Called local health inspectors (twice).
- First time was for the fact it was almost 100 F in the fucking store (illegal). Got fixed shortly after, and inspectors said that's an OSHA issue.
- Second time was a combo of no running hot water and the fact our fucking fridge was 60 F. This time they did come in and it was fucking fantastic because all of our food got tossed and the fridge got fixed that day.
- Called the fire marshall.
- Our burners weren't turning off on one of the stoves. I very innocently sent an email to the fire marshall like “does this mean we have a gas leak?” (sent pictures too). We had a gas leak. We've been shut down for 3 days! Explains why I've felt so hellaciously nauseous and dizzy while at work lately!
- Our vents for the grill are dogshit and fill the store up with smoke. Sure you can open the back door but y'all I am sick of choking on chicken smoke, what the fuck.
- One time we had a 300-person catering order due, no A/C or venting, minimal power (this was after a major storm) and they actually came in and did it. I wasn't there for that, but the fact they came in and cooked enough chicken for 300 people with no venting at all and emergency lights. Wtf?
And yet, despite all this–it's still fucking open. It's still running. And I think the worst of it is that I am so utterly desperate I put up with it. My last paycheck was 300$ and my rent is 500 and my next check is gonna be terrible because of, you know, the store being closed for 3 days because of a fucking gas leak. I've barely been scheduled more than 25 hours in the past month. I'm barely sleeping I'm so damn stressed. I can't do Uber or Lyft or anything like that because I can't drive (in Texas! I walk to work! It sucks!) so I rely exclusively on this amazingly terrible job. I had other interviews, other job prospects–and they fell through. I had everything set up to get my life together, to get a neurologist, work on being cleared to learn how to drive, and now I can't even afford my rent.
I'm so tired, y'all.
