The department is having another work social. The first one was “mandatory” — the kind where they don’t say that word but heavily imply that you need to go or they’ll be upset. They said since it was such a “great success” that they’re holding another one!
I didn’t go to the first one and I don’t want to go to this next one. My controversial opinion is that I really don’t care if we’re being paid for it, I don’t want to go. I’m an introvert and it’s draining as hell, I also don’t like my coworkers that much and I don’t want to smile and play nice with the bosses. I don’t want cold eggs and bacon. I don’t want to drive to a different location then go to the office and continue to be social. I don’t care if you pay me for mileage.
I’ll clock in at my normal time, in my normal office, and do my work. Or I’ll come in late. Whatever, I don’t care. Just don’t make me talk to the department head about hobbies and how the wife is.
Stop the mandatory socializing and leave us alone!
EDIT: It’s a “breakfast social” on a random weekday morning and we’re being paid for it. Maybe they’ll regret inviting me when I ask them to reimburse for my minuscule mileage.
