I filed a WC claim, then put in my 2 weeks, and was told I needed to resign. Does my employer owe me pay for my last 2 weeks?

I work remote but am based in VA. I loved my job for months, but one day a major mistake by management made me realize how flawed the organization was. To make a long story short, my team had to redo a major project that originally lasted a few months all within 2 weeks. Our hourly goals increased by a preposterous amount, and as a result I experienced sustaining pain in the arm that I work with. Management barked at me like a dog to fulfill these requests, and it caused serious stress to my well being.

I reported my injury to work and was able to use my remaining PTO while I was waiting to see a doctor. HR wanted me to return to work after I visited the doctor and got the paperwork filled out.

In a strange turn of events, while I was out on PTO, I got a job offer. I put my two weeks in, told them I hoped to finish my two weeks strong, but was concerned about my arm. Then I had my doctor’s appointment. The doctor confirmed that I should be resting my arm at this time. When I shared this with HR, they told me I needed to resign. I asked them if I would be compensated for my last two weeks, and they said all they could do was honor my PTO (which I had already used).

I just overlooked my resignation letter and they listed my situation as a “voluntary resignation” which I don’t necessarily agree with. Is there anything I can do to get paid for my last 2 weeks? It’s not like I wanted to have a work injury anyways. TYIA!
