I got a cup, yay?

I need to vent rq. So, I graduated earlier this year, and like many others in the US, I struggled to find a job. By no means was I under qualified. I had a desirable degree with additional skills and trainings that put me leagues above my competition. Took me 6 months to gain employment. I tried being grateful for the opportunity. After all, I work for a well respected company that many claim to be more selective than Harvard for its employees. Last week, I was told to go through our extensive backlog of invoices. It’s not a part of my job description, but I’ve gotten used to doing things not in my job description. I don’t know why these were backlogged so much, seeing as how we need to process these in a timely manner. Basically, if we don’t send these invoices out before a certain time, we…

Last week, I was told to go through our extensive backlog of invoices. It’s not a part of my job description, but I’ve gotten used to doing things not in my job description. I don’t know why these were backlogged so much, seeing as how we need to process these in a timely manner. Basically, if we don’t send these invoices out before a certain time, we don’t get reimbursed for the expenses we rack up. I was able to catch a lot of invoices that were going to expire soon, and get them processed. The sum of these invoices was around $3 million USD.

I wasn’t expecting a parade for my effort, but when someone saves your company $3 million dollars, you’d probably want to find some way to thank them. Hell, I’d take a personal and genuine thank you from the head of my department for my effort.

What did I get? A cup. That’s right, I got a cup. Walked to my desk today, found a cup with a little generic note thanking me for my effort. Maybe if I had been the only one to get this, it would’ve meant something, but instead everyone got the same cup with the same note.

I’m trying to be thankful. After all, everyone I know here works hard every day and deserves praise. And hey, it’s a cool little cup with our company logo on it. However, I don’t really think a cup is the best way to say thanks. Maybe I’m just tired and overreacting, or maybe I need to start looking for a job somewhere else.

I just needed to vent. I’ve seen people on here have similar issues with not being thanked for the amount of work and value they bring to their employers. Hopefully some of you can relate.

Tl;DR I saved the company millions and they gave me a cup.
