i had surgery scheduled for 4/20, and i was a manager at a vape store that i absolutely loved. i have asd and ADHD, which impacts my time perception among other things. i was employed for 9ish months, and came in late 3 times. the first time i was given a write up, but nothing for the subsequent times. my employer knew about my disabilities, but never even discussed accomodations with me. when i was there, i worked HARD because i had a lot of pride in that store, and they knew that. despite that, i was never asked what was causing the random lateness, they never offered to work w me or anything.
they knew well in advance i had surgery on 4/20, and on 4/16 i was fired on the spot, mid shift. no write ups, no nothing. i was devastated and heart broken.
since surgery, ive been relentlessly searching for a job. im absolutely miserable. ive applied to every single job i can think of, walmart target shoprite, delivery jobs, hospital jobs, lawn care, pool care, warehouses, restaurants, dispensaries, vape shops, etc. and not one has hired me. mostly i just dont hear anything at all. if i do, 9/10 times its just to say they proceeded with someone else. in that rare 1/10 times, i get an interview and then hear nothing afterwards.
one of the issues is i refuse to work weekends. i have full availability M-F, but my friends all work that schedule and the weekend is the only time we can get together. we usually do things like camping, beach trips, etc. on the weekends. im a minimalist and live very simply, so i dont need a lot of money. and along with that mindset is one youll all agree with, that the only important thing in life is the experiences we have and the friends we have them with. im noy sacrificing that just so i can get a job where im required to work weekends, leaving my days off during the week when i cant see my friends anyway. essentially, the market is telling me if i want to pay rent, itll mean not doing any of the things that make life worth it.
im just so at the end of my rope with this. im doing doordash for some extra money, but ive exhausted my options. i dont know where to apply or what to do. i shouldnt have to decide between rent food bills, or seeing my friends. why do these places think they can do that? im not in high school or college anymore, im an adult with things i do on the weekends. its absurd that these places wont even consider me because i wont do weekends. apparently, M-F with full availability uncluding overnights isnt enough of an offer huh. i wont work weekends, but ill work 10pm-6am if i was offered that. but no. its gotta be weekends!!!
