I’ve had a lot of really awful bosses. One who would hire completely useless team members because he was attracted to them. One who I still have nightmares about and wake up in a cold sweat even though it’s been four years. But my most recent boss was just an out of touch jackass.
I’d have to listen to him talk about his luxurious Mediterranean cruises that cost more than I made in a year, he questioned everything I did, micromanaged me… it was rough. But I still think about when I sat down with him to tell him I could no longer afford to drive to work every day and needed to work hybrid (gas had just jumped to $5/gallon). He told me that their were nuances to my job that couldn’t be done from home (I had just returned to the office after a year of being fully remote due to COVID) and then told me that if I couldn’t afford the price of gas I should try getting gas from somewhere else.
