This happened awhile ago, but im thinking of this again because i saw a manger acquaintance and remembered why i hate certain work mentalities.
I had two jobs. One I did casually and had no regrets leaving. I have/had a decent Union job And another restaurant job over the weekend. I lied and said I was a student and that's why I work weakeneds. I do have restaurant experience as a server. Many of my coworkers are students
but I think the owner thought it would be easy to manipulate us. We got a reminder say we should come in 10 minutes early to be ready. Then the owner kept pushing and saying things like stay 10 minutes later for clean up etc
Like one time I came in uniform 100% ready but because I was early, I sat in the break room. Got seen and told if I have nothing to do I should just so some light house keeping. Of course I quit.
Anyways fast forward to this acquaintance and we (like a group of us) are catching up on our life. I said I was in (x work) its a really popular company and the Union is known. Pretty much the only one. (Think something like, if you are in the lumberjack company its assumed you are in the lumberjack union)
Anyways. Manager acquaintance said she got promoted as some regional manager and she hates unions because they are clock watchers. I'm just shocked she said it in front of Me. I just hate that we couldn't be friendly to each other without bringing work politics. If she had just said she was a manager I wouldn't fight her over it.
I do work. I'm not the type to slow down as my shift ends but the moment it does I'm done.
Its just sad because she was only until recently pretty much in my position. And now she's just being an ass
