Hi guys I really need to vent, I have a 8.30 hours long shift tomorrow (with just a 30min lunch break and no other breaks, not even for a cigarette or coffee) and I have to stay in the freezing hall of the museum where I have to stand all the time and say the exact same things to all the visitors who enter (explaining them how the thematic areas of museum are disposed and the like).
If I sit to rest for a moment when there are no visitors and the people who work in the museum offices come down and find me sitting they shout at me. So I have to stand and repeat the same phrases when there are visitors or stand looking at the void whenever there are none. All while being paid super minimum wage so I can’t even buy something warm and nice to eat to cheer me up.
I know there are worst jobs but I really hate when I have to cover that station, I start being depressed days before. It makes me crazy to stand there so long in the cold with the only thing to do being repeating the same phrase to people over and over. Also I have terrible back and neck pain for days when I get home.
Do you have similar shifts at work? How do you cope, is there some trick to find some comfort without going crazy with the cold, the body hurting from standing still in a place all day and the alienation of having nothing to do but repeating a phrase?
Today I really wish our ancestors never decided to come out of the water.
