I have become a toxic employee

I worked at this company for 2 years and during the course I was overworked (literally everyone in the team was), underpaid. I underwent a surgery and within 2 days after the discharge I was benevolently forced to sit on my laptop and finish something ‘unavoidable’. I was completely burnt out and quit. Cut to 7 months down the line my ex boss reached out to me asking for a favour in the city I was in at that point. Considering the good will I had, I obliged. One thing led to another and I agreed to work on just one account. Had it in writing that I will not take the raise I should because it was only one account, the MD agreed. In addition to this, he also agreed that whenever I get more clients I shall be compensated accordingly. Within a month other employees started reaching out…

Within a month other employees started reaching out to me for their work—not related to my client. I clearly mentioned it was out of my SOW. I think that may have been the turning point and my bosses started disliking me. I was again handed over a new account despite mentioning that i was planning to quit. Right after this call, my manager asked me to submit the monthly report and the plan for the upcoming months (this was the last week of the month, I had no idea about what was done). Not only was this a client I was new to but the field as well. Never had experience working on automobile clients. I politely requested him to let me shadow the existing team for a few days before I took lead. This never happened.

Sorry about too many instances. But in general my manager always gives me urgent work. Something he always needs in 30-60 min and these are legit plans or write ups that need research.

I became a problem when I started saying no. But I became an actual problem when he started lashing out at me out of spite. First in personal messages and then in groups when I put in my papers.

Upon introspection I realised I haven’t been polite and obedient like my earlier self because of the past resentment and shitty stuff like holding everyone’s salaries for a month at a notice of 9 days, denying help by saying I have only account and I should be able to handle shit on my own. Setting unreal expectations for the client and pressurising me to achieve the deliverables without lending help whatsoever. Once, he told the client that we have a new writer onboard only to pacify them—when other senior members had told the client there was nothing wrong with the drafts. I continued ghost writing for other people too. This is another issue, he’s often MIA and clueless but suddenly appears one day for all menial updates in a rather condescending way. Thinks people who microreport are great employees.

I am the toxic employee because I told him that I hated his team management and he’s biased. Last week he publicly shamed me so I asked him to say it to my face, we then had a full blown fight. I feel horrible about what I’ve become. Still have two weeks here, hope I don’t go crazy.

Lol thanks for reading, if you did.
