I’m 21 and I’ve done housekeeping jobs my whole life, I used to work at a gym making minimum wage and doing housekeeping, even there I got paid sick leave, since they passed a law in my state earlier this year that all part time and minimum wage employees get paid sick leave.
A few months ago I started working at a new place, a rehabilitation centers laundry room, and it’s been fine so far. But lately we’ve been on outbreak mode since 19 patients have covid and 10 employees. I found out today I have covid while I was at work and was told I can’t work for 2 weeks, when I asked my manager how the sick leave works and she actually laughed and said since I’m housekeeping I don’t get paid sick leave.
I have a little bit of savings but not enough to cover 2 weeks worth of missing work. I think I’ll get evicted because I don’t know how to make the money. What do I do? Can medical centers. Really not give paid sick leave for something caught in the building?
