I just watched 65 and it blew my mind. That goes for you living in the greatest country ever. You are fucked.

It was not a good movie. Calling it mediocre is being really nice. But the basic premise. That really blew my mind. There is this guy that is really good at his job that has to take an extra long extra dangerous mission so he can afford to pay for medical treatment for his daughter. Mind you, this is a space faring civilisation with the ability to put people into cryo sleep and wake them up routinely among other things. And he still has to pay for his daughter's treatment. It is just so USA. It just shows what the people who created the movie fear most. Now, if I, an European, was to imagine a negative thing that the character needed money for, it would be something like a gambling debt to russian mafia. But I would probably have a positive goal like retiring early to a house on…

Having to pay for the daughter's treatment is probably the last thing I would think of.

But for you it is so normalized that you imagine future (ok, past) advanced civilizations that still don't provide healthcare for kids. This is your reality and you can't even imagine a future without it. If this is not enough to make you rethink things, I don't know what is.
