Disclaimer: throwaway account. I'm starting the job search. I don't need my whining to necessarily speed that up!
I have to rant, because I'm stuck here in the office bored out of my damn mind. Recently, my company put out a memo that our hybrid work schedule would be going to 3 days a week in office instead of 2. Because 'collaboration' and 'culture' and 'creativity' or some shit. Okay. Not new. Every fucking company is jumping on this bandwagon.
Well….
Today we had a team meeting. 4 out of the 5 team members were in the office including myself.
We literally have a conference room across the hall.
Instead, we all just shut our office doors and jumped on a video call.
Where's the collaboration? Culture?
Ok another example. In the same day.
Today I had to go in. Normally, I make my lunch and then go eat it back at my desk. Not this time. I hung out in the breakroom for probably longer than my lunch hour. Gotta experience that culture after all.
I talked to my coworker a bit about video games, not new – and then other people just popped in and out grunting 'hi how are you' and leaving before I could answer.
It's so LONELY here sometimes. At least at home I can talk aloud to myself without issue if no one is interacting with me.
I am tempted, to just keep doing my 2 days in the office, and see what happens. Not a goddamn SOUL will notice, is my theory.
Because what they want me to actually do, is beyond ridiculous. I feel stupid typing it out.
I share my desk with another person because there isn't enough office space.
So, we then have to alternate:
I go in 3 days for the first week, she goes in 2 days. Then I go in 2, she goes in 3. And so forth.
How about I don't bother with that complete and utter nonsense and just keep doing my 2 days?
NO ONE WILL NOTICE.
I asked my boss how they intend to track this.
He shrugged.
I think I have my answer.
